Golden Eagle Protection & Air Sport Activities
Current no-fly zones for paragliders

The 2025 breeding season is in full swing and we are once again asking all air sports enthusiasts to help protect our golden eagles!
Supplement:
In the period from 1 March until the young eagles fly out, the areas in which paragliders and hang-gliders find good thermal areas and can use them – from an eagle's point of view – without any problems are marked GREEN in the overview graphic.
During the same period, the sensitive breeding areas (= eyrie areas) of our rare golden eagles are marked in RED, where they do not want to be disturbed while breeding. To avoid disturbance, pilots should fly around these areas at a distance of at least 500 meters.
The overview map is updated regularly. We ask you to pass on the information to other pilots! Thank you very much!

Project description:
As part of a long-term monitoring project of the Berchtesgaden National Park Administration, the population dynamics of the golden eagle are documented in the Chiemgau, Berchtesgaden and immediately adjacent Salzburg Alps. A total of 15 territorial pairs are monitored over an area of approx. 1,500 km². Two further territories are currently not occupied. In the National Park itself there are currently 5 golden eagle territories on an area of 210 km².
The goal of the project is on the one hand the preservation of a vital golden eagle subpopulation as well as the implementation of concrete measures for the protection of this rare bird of prey in Bavaria.

Help to protect the sensitive mountain nature!
In a national park, the protection of nature is the primary goal. And for this to work, we need your help! Please adhere to the following rules to protect chamois, marmots and co:
- Take garbage back home with you
- Do not pick plants
- Keep dogs on a lead in the national park
- Stay on the paths - please do not walk cross-country or take shortcuts
- Do not disturb wild animals
- Do not camp or bivouac
- Do not light campfires
- Do not make noise
- Air mattresses, rubber boats and other flotation devices are prohibited
- Drones are not allowed to fly in the national park
- Cyclists must show consideration for hikers
