Cycling in Germany's only Alpine National Park? Sure, that's possible!
But: Cycling in the national park is only permitted on the paths approved for this purpose. This is regulated by an ordinance and is therefore laid down by law!
Why? To protect sensitive habitats for animals and plants and preserve quiet zones. In addition, safety risks and conflicts with hikers are minimized. For a peaceful coexistence of nature, recreationists and people working in the national park!
The national park can be explored on almost 50 km of trails on two wheels. The approved trails are marked in the terrain and can be easily recognized by the white signs with green lettering/symbols. These indicate the tour destinations, the distance and the corresponding altitude difference. If there is no such signage, cycling is prohibited - even if there is no explicit prohibition sign!
"Test release of additional cycle paths in the national park!"
Parts of the Berchtesgaden National Park are being opened to cyclists on a trial basis. The regulation will initially apply for three years.
In addition to the aforementioned routes, the following routes may now also be used by bicycle:
Cycling is still prohibited on all other roads and paths in the national park.
By the way: there are also hikers on the paths that are open to cyclists. Please be considerate of other visitors to the national park, thank you!
The official cycle paths mainly lead along gravel forest roads, while the state road through the Klausbach valley is asphalted. These are paths where hikers, cyclists and cars do not get in each other's way. But beware: there are also hikers on the paths that are open to cyclists and many of the paths have steep sections. Caution is required here, especially when going downhill, to avoid collisions!
Please follow the rules and show consideration for other guests. We wish you many wonderful experiences in Berchtesgaden National Park!
Please note that the level of difficulty may vary depending on the tour portal. Your tour planning should be adapted to your physical condition, which is why we ask you to always take all factors into account!
