The 2024 breeding season is over. Currently, all thermal areas for paraglider and hang glider pilots can be flown without any problems from an eagle's perspective.
On behalf of our golden eagles, we thank you for the good cooperation and consideration in the 2024 season and hope for the same support and consideration in 2025!
In the Klausbach Valley, the rangers set up a golden eagle feeding area in winter. This so-called “Luderplatz” is not intended to help the golden eagles through the winter. The birds hunt themselves all year round or use fallen game. Instead, the Luderplatz is used for educational purposes: The birds are to be made visible to visitors without disturbing the animals. With a bit of luck and patience, the golden eagles can be observed feeding live here.
As part of a long-term monitoring project of the Berchtesgaden National Park Administration, the population dynamics of the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) are documented in the Chiemgau, Berchtesgaden and immediately adjacent Salzburg Alps. A total of 15 territorial pairs are monitored over an area of about 1,500 km². Two further territories are currently not occupied. In the national park itself there are currently 5 golden eagle territories on an area of 210 km².
The goal of the project is on the one hand the preservation of a vital golden eagle subpopulation as well as the implementation of concrete measures for the protection of this rare bird of prey in Bavaria.
