Alpine School

Young generations are becoming increasingly alienated from nature. To counteract this trend, the alpine-wide Interreg project YOUrALPS was launched. Through creative actions, young people were encouraged to actively participate in shaping their future in the Alps and sensitized to the Alps as a habitat. The innovative "Alpine School Model" was also created in the course of the project.

Berchtesgaden National Park and Berchtesgaden High School, together with thirteen other pilot regions from five Alpine countries, developed new ideas for implementing education for sustainable development in the Alps, successfully put them into practice and finally evaluated them.

In 2020, Berchtesgaden High School was certified as Germany's first "Alpine School" for its commitment. The "Alpine School Model" enriches teaching through innovative and participatory approaches, enables outdoor education and promotes young people's relationship with nature and their alpine habitats. Information about the project is available here at: https://www.alpine-space.eu/projects/youralps/en/home.

Alpine Toolkit

The "Alpine Toolkit" is a collection of educational activities for the school and extracurricular sector. The handout was developed within the framework of the Interreg project "YOUrALPS". It promotes the identification of young people with the Alpine habitat and encourages an active and responsible approach to nature in the sense of sustainable development.

YOUrALPS Manual

The handbook, which was also developed in the project, serves as an aid for educators on the topic of "learning at extracurricular venues". With a variety of information such as descriptions of procedures, checklists of useful contacts, organizational and pedagogical tips, ideas and links to good practice examples, it is intended to motivate teachers to conduct teaching units outside the school building.
