National park and biosphere schools

The Berchtesgadener Land biosphere region and the Berchtesgaden National Park want to strengthen cooperation with schools in the region and have therefore initiated a project to establish long-term cooperation with joint partner schools. The project uses the existing expertise of both institutions to bring both education for sustainable development (ESD) and nature and wilderness education to schools at a high quality level and to promote identification with the protected areas and the biosphere region as a model region for sustainable development. The project started in the fall of 2021, with eight pilot schools initially taking part in the project during the work and trial phase until the end of the 2023/2024 school year. Due to the extension of the project until 2027, seven more schools were able to join the group of national park and biosphere schools from September 2024.
