Eco Management and Audit Scheme

ISO 14 001 and ISO 26 000 with SDG reporting

The environmental strategy of the Berchtesgaden National Park Authority sees the Paris Agreement as a goal, the UN Agenda 2030 as a global framework and EMAS as a tool to achieve the goal.

Since 2019, the Berchtesgaden National Park Authority has been using the European Union's EMAS environmental management system as a globally valid and effective instrument to make its own operational environmental behavior measurable on an ecological, economic and socio-cultural level. The national park administration thus makes an important contribution to sustainable development and positions itself as a socially responsible organization.

A continuous improvement process ensures that operational CO2 emissions are reduced, energy is used more effectively, supply chains are examined for sustainability and social influences are shaped. The aim is to achieve climate-neutral management of the national park.

In 2023, 50 of the 151 national park employees took part in the annual audit, providing important values and many ideas. A 12-point environmental plan shows the future-oriented plans and a sustainability report with an SDG report provides information on how the areas of activity of the Berchtesgaden National Park administration relate to the 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations. The validity of the EMAS environmental declaration is checked and validated by an independent environmental auditor every fall and entered in the EMAS register of the Munich Upper Bavaria Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

EMAS Environmental Statement II

The administration of the Berchtesgaden National Park introduced environmental management according to EMAS in 2019 and was successfully registered in February 2020. Thus, the national park takes a pioneering role - it is the first in Germany with an EMAS-certified administration.
