National Park barrier-free
The ordinance on the “Creation of accessible information technology in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act” (BITV 2.) stipulates that all publicly funded websites must be designed to be accessible. This means that people with disabilities should also be able to find their way around directly.
However, accessibility is not only an issue on the Internet
Barriers such as high thresholds in doors, stairs, texts that are difficult to read, etc. can make it difficult for people with disabilities to access facilities or participate in local events.
The Berchtesgaden National Park provides offers for people with disabilities, e.g. barrier-free guided tours. Some hiking trails in the national park are also suitable for wheelchair users. You can find these on the yellow signs from the Route concept in the outdoor area. This offer is to be expanded in the future. The creation of a “model accessibility management plan” served this purpose. This plan analyzes the existing facilities and makes suggestions for future design. Following the model management plan, the Bavarian Accessible Nature Experience Network was founded.

The Berchtesgaden National Park Authority endeavors to make its website accessible in accordance with the Bavarian Digital Ordinance (BayDiV) in connection with the Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0) to make them accessible without barriers.
Status of compatibility with the requirements
This website is currently only partially compliant with BayBITV 2.0, but is subject to a continuous self-assessment and review process and will be adapted to meet the requirements of BayBITV 2.0.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is not accessible for the following reasons:
- Disproportionate burden claimed in accordance with section (§)1 (4) of the BayDiV.
- Not all PDF documents (especially those uploaded before 01.01.2016) currently meet the current accessibility requirements for PDF files. PDF files posted at a later date will be created in an accessible version or old documents will be replaced by such a version if necessary.
- The contents do not fall within the scope of the applicable legal provisions.
Apps must meet the requirements for accessibility from June 2021. Unfortunately, our application (www.nationalpark-berchtesgaden.bayern.de/service/mediathek/app/index.htm) is not yet accessible because it was developed several years ago. However, future versions will be published in an accessible form.

Barrier-free guided tours
Some of our guided hikes from the “Experience and discover nature - program for schools, kindergartens, children and young people” are also suitable for wheelchair users. As environmental education always appeals to all the senses, many of the guided tours are also interesting for people with intellectual disabilities. We ask you to look through the program and decide which tour is best suited to your group. We are happy to respond to your suggestions and needs. We also offer excursions in sign language on request.
Barrier-free hiking program
Due to the difficult accessibility of our national park, only some of our offers can be designed for guests in wheelchairs - these are marked with the wheelchair symbol:
As these offers are not equally suitable for everyone, we would ask you to contact the Haus der Berge National Park Center on +49 8652 979060-0 before taking part in a guided tour marked in this way.
If you find it difficult to walk, you can hire electric scooters, rollators or wheelchairs from local medical supply stores.
“Accessibility model management plan” project
The motto of Berchtesgaden Park is “A national park for everyone”. This means that the park should serve the general public for recreation.
Tour suggestions
Please note that the difficulty ratings may differ depending on the tour portal. The evaluation criteria of the tour portals usually refer to the distance/calculated walking time of the tour, the altitude difference and the technical difficulty based on the SAC hiking scale. Therefore, in addition to the tour data (e.g. length, altitude), please also pay particular attention to the signposts in the terrain.
These refer to sections of the route and, in contrast to the tour portals, are based on the following categories:
- Barrier-free paths (yellow) are wide, have no or only slight inclines and there is no risk of falling.
- Easy mountain trails (blue) are often narrow and can have steep passages, there is no danger of falling.
- Medium-difficulty climbs (red) are narrow and usually steep. Short passages with a risk of falling or sections secured by wire ropes must be mastered.
- Difficult climbs (black) are narrow, steep, often exposed and there is a risk of falling. Wire rope secured passages and unsecured climbing sections must be mastered. Not suitable for dogs.
Your tour planning should be adapted to your physical condition, which is why we ask you to always take all factors into account and not to ignore the signs in the terrain!

Help to protect the sensitive mountain nature!
In a national park, the protection of nature is the primary goal. And for this to work, we need your help! Please adhere to the following rules to protect chamois, marmots and co:
- Take garbage back home with you
- Do not pick plants
- Keep dogs on a lead in the national park
- Stay on the paths - please do not walk cross-country or take shortcuts
- Do not disturb wild animals
- Do not camp or bivouac
- Do not light campfires
- Do not make noise
- Air mattresses, rubber boats and other flotation devices are prohibited
- Drones are not allowed to fly in the national park
- Cyclists must show consideration for hikers
