Please note that the difficulty ratings may differ depending on the tour portal. The evaluation criteria of the tour portals usually refer to the distance/calculated walking time of the tour, the altitude difference and the technical difficulty based on the SAC hiking scale. Therefore, in addition to the tour data (e.g. length, altitude), please also give priority to the signposts in the terrain.
Your tour planning should be adapted to your physical condition, which is why we ask you to always take all factors into account and not to ignore the signs in the terrain!
From the national park information point in St. Bartholomä, follow the flat path to the chapel of St. John and Paul. Then continue steeply uphill through the forest along a well-trodden path. When the forest clears again, you will soon reach the gravel-rich stream bed in front of the snow field at the foot of the Watzmann east face. The way back is via the same route. ATTENTION DANGER OF LIFE: Do not enter the "ice chapel"! The glacier gate can collapse.
The New Traunsteiner Hut on the Reiter Alm can only be reached on foot. The so-called Wachterlsteig trail leads from the Schwarzbachwacht hikers' parking lot - or also called "Wachterl" - to the high plateau. From the parking lot, follow the signs on hiking trail no. 470 to reach the trail. After about 1.5 hours you will reach a saddle. There you keep to the left and cross the karstic plateau in a gentle up and down. At a junction where the path from the Eisbergscharte joins, continue straight ahead. Cross the Saugasse and follow the slightly ascending path. Shortly before the hut you reach a fork where the path to Edelweißlahner is signposted. However, go straight ahead and 50 meters further you will "suddenly" reach the Neue Traunsteiner Hütte, which was not visible before. The way back follows the same route. TIP: The larch and stone pine forest is the most important in the Bavarian Alps. From the Neue Traunsteiner Hütte you can continue hiking to the Großer Weitschartenkopf.
From the parking lot at the Wimbach bridge, follow the signs in the direction of Wimbachschloss. Shortly after "Wimbachs Wollstadl" you will reach a fork where you turn left to the Wimbachklamm gorge (fee required!). Either go through the gorge, or keep to the right and follow the now briefly very steep path further into the valley. Both paths join again a short time later. At the next fork before the bridge, keep right again. The hiking trail (411, 421) leads you on a very slight but steady incline past the Wimbach Castle until you reach the Wimbachgrieshütte after about 4 km. Ideal for stopping off in summer. The Wimbachgries, which you hike through, is an up to 300 m deep debris flow from the brittle dolomite rock of the surrounding mountains with a special flora. The way back is via the same route.
You start at the parking lot Hinterbrand. From there, follow the forest road (No. 498) in the direction of the Jennerbahn mid-station. Shortly before the mid station, turn left onto hiking trail 498a and follow the numerous serpentines to the forest road. Keep left past the Mitterkaseralm and continue over the Jennersattel to the Carl-von-Stahl-Haus on the Torrener Joch. From there you follow a more demanding mountain trail in a southeasterly direction through mountain pine fields until you reach a steep ascent. Then you continue to the "Blumengarten", a karstic plateau. Over two rugged terrain steps you finally reach the broad ridge below the Schneibstein. The markings lead in a southerly direction to the Windscharte. Below the Windschartenkopf you descend into the valley between Fagstein and Windschartenkopf. The path continues halfway up between the mountain guard hut visible from above and the Seeleinsee lake, to a crossroads and down through the Stiergraben to the Priesbergalm. From there you follow the Königsweg either to the parking lot Hinterbrand or the middle station of the Jennerbahn.
From the parking lot at Königssee, walk past the valley station of the Jennerbahn cable car along the road until, at the last houses, the turnoff to the right leads to the Hochbahnweg (No. 493). Follow this shady forest path up to the forest road, which you follow to the right until you reach the Königsbachalm (open in summer). Continue on trail no. 493 past the Gotzentalalm until you reach the Gotzenalm (open in summer) after a long hike. You can either descend along the same path back to the Hinterbrand parking lot or hike to the Kessel landing stage (hiking trail 494), alternatively to Salet am Königssee (hiking trail 492). TIP: From the Gotzenalm you can reach the vantage point Feuerpalfen with a deep view of the Königssee and the peninsula St. Bartholomä in 10 minutes on foot.
First, from the starting point at the parking lot "Wimbachbrücke", follow hiking trail 441 in the direction of Watzmannhaus. Just after the bridge, keep to the right and after about 500 meters you will reach a forest road, from which you turn right after another 200 meters at the second junction. Follow the path past the Stubenalm pasture to the Mitterkaseralm pasture until you reach the climate station. From here the paved road narrows to a mountain path. Follow it up to the Watzmannhaus (open in summer). The way back follows the same route. TIP: From the Watzmannhaus you can hike on to the Hocheck, one of the three Watzmann peaks. Here you definitely need mountain experience, very good condition and appropriate equipment!
